Dear Jessie,

I'm sorry I was not able to reply to your letter, we had just finished exams and I got busy.

I hope we can meet each other when you come visit Vancouver this summer. That would be very exciting!
Thank you for letting me know, haha. Big Bang will have many more concerts, and I'm sure you can go watch them if they ever come to China.

I hope you are doing well!

Take care,
Micah

Hi Jerry. It has been great to connect with you this semester. The class I am taking is almost over so this will be the last time you hear from me. I'm also a fan of Rowan Atkinson. Have you seen his Johnny English movies? I can't say I've ever played League of Legends or Overwatch. I usually just play videogames when my friends do, which includes Halo, Super Smash Bros, and Mario Kart. I haven't seen Pacific Rim 2 yet but I think I will now! I'm sorry you got detention that can't have been fun. We have something similar at my school where everyone has to buy a meal plan at the Cafeteria and I agree with you it isn't always enjoyable but it's important that we follow the rules. It has been great connecting with you this semester. Crazy to think that we are on opposite sides of the world and communicating with each other!

Regards,
Evan

Hallo Vinci,

That is the German way of saying 'Hello'.

I just noticed your message, good thing that I looked.

So you want to study German? Good choice, but where will you use it? Will you go to Germany?
Otherwise I think that there would be limited opportunities to use it.

I know German is very important over in Europe because Germany is probably the most powerful country economically in Europe again.

They were defeated two times in two World Wars but each time they worked very hard to rebuild their country. German people are very hard working people, its in their culture.

My first language was German until I was 5 years old, so I cannot tell you anything if it was hard to learn. After that I learned English and it happened so fast that I have no memory of that either.

When I was 60 yrs old I started learning Spanish and now I can speak and understand Spanish maybe a Level 3.
Yes, I am a bit older, I am not trying to hide it. I am the oldest person in the class….by far. I don't care.

You are right, its okay to be friends even if ages are not close.

Back to Spanish, I use it every day, reading and writing text messages etc.
Spanish is a very important world language, you can go to many countries where they speak Spanish.

You see, Spain was a country that conquered many countries, long ago, and after that they introduced Spanish to the people of those countries. You can speak Spanish in Central America and in most countries of South America, and even the Philippines were controlled by Spain for a long time.

But Germany did very very little of that so the German language was not used much in other countries besides in Europe.

i like your story about your Grandmother being nice to you and telling you stories. She must be a kind person.
But I did not understand what you said there about them sending you to some 'out school class' and then you said something you did not like because of 'their age'. What did you mean there? Please explain.

I am sorry to hear that your parents did not have much time to take care of you. Is that still true?
Do you have a brother or sister?

What grade are you in at school?
Do you have any problems reading my messages?

Would you like to continue to write to me like this?

The university class I am in is now finished, except for the final exam next week. I am studying very hard to prepare for that.

Thank you for writing to me Vinci.

Until next time
Hasta la proxima vez.[Spanish]
Bis zum nächsten Mal. [German]

~Albert~

Hi Reginald!

My exams are starting now so I wanted to send you one more message to say goodbye.

It has been a pleasure to get to know you! I have so enjoyed getting to talk to you hear about your life. You seem like a very sweet, talented, kind person and I hope that you are successful in the pursuit of your many dreams. Keep working hard on your studies, spending time with your loved ones, and chasing your passions.

I'm honoured to have been your pen pal and wish you all the best for the future!
Madison :-)

I believe that you can pass all of your subjects! The weather is not so nice here in Canada as well. It is always raining and there is not a lot of sunshine. The cherry blossoms are just starting to bloom and they are beautiful! Hopefully we get a little more sun here so that they will last longer. I am very excited for summer as well. You are almost there!

Re: i am katherine by Seina KSeina K, 10 Apr 2018 18:56

Hi Anka!

Sorry for the late reply. Chinese New Year sounds like fun! My family has never celebrated Chinese New Year, but I know there are other people in Canada who do celebrate this. Wow, you have an ambitious plan! What kind of business would you want to have? And where do you want to travel? I have traveled some places in Canada and the USA. The farthest place I have traveled is Germany, and I really liked it there! I hope that I can travel to more places one day.

I love poetry! One of my favourite poems is by Emily Dickinson. It goes like this:

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

My favourite colour is pale purple, but I don't really have a reason for this…
I have never read "Harry Potter", but many of my friends have read it. If you can find it, "The Giver" by Lois Lowry is a really great book. You could also try "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak, although this one might be a bit harder to read.

I don't have a physical education class right now. I took one last year, and we met once a week. I like running, but I do get tired quickly. Good for you for running so far!

Hi Alina,

It is the last two weeks of university so it has been very busy. I have had a lot of assignments and homework. Sorry I did not reply sooner. Do you have a lot of homework?

Australia sounds amazing! I have never been to Australia. Someday I would love to travel there.

My university is called Trinity Western University. I really like my university. It is a smaller university. It has about 4,000 people. The classes are not too big and the professors are very knowledgeable. I study history, politics, culture, and how to teach English. The professors in my classes are very helpful and are very good at teaching, but they give me a lot of homework. Most of my professors have had a positive impact on me and my learning. When I first started university (I am in my last year of university now) I went to a lot of university events. My university holds a lot of events so that students can get to know each other.

That reminds me of when I took P.E. in high school. In elementary, middle, and high school I had to take P.E. For P.E., I always had to run laps around the outside of the school. It was always cold and terrible. I only like running when I am playing a sport. Now that I am in university I don't have to take P.E. class, so I don't have to run. I only take classes for my degree, so most of my classes are history, politics, and teaching courses. What do you want to study in university? Do you want to study abroad?

Thanks,
Rachel

Re: Hi Alina! by rachelcbrachelcb, 10 Apr 2018 02:08

Hi Alina,

I usually spend my free time playing soccer, watching TV shows (and cartoons), hanging out with friends, working out, and doing homework. During Christmas break I sometimes go skiing.

I also think cooking is a good skill. It is a very useful skill for when you live by yourself. My favourite activity is to cook with other people. I usually cook with my boyfriend. He is better at cooking than I am. Last week was Easter, so I went to my grandma's house for dinner. She is very good at cooking. She made ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, and salad. It was delicious! She also baked Easter bread and cookies.

When I was a child I watched a cartoon called the Weekenders. I would watch it every Friday when I got home from school. I also really like Japanese cartoons (Anime) and the cartoons Gravity Falls, Stephen Universe, and RWBY. Do you like anime? What cartoons do you like to watch?

Sorry I did not reply sooner. I hope you are doing well.
Rachel

Hi Sampson,
I apologize for not getting back to you earlier. This semester has been extremely busy! That is really nice that you have gotten to see different provinces of Canada. I am from Vancouver, British Columbia. I like all types of music. However, I really enjoy acoustics to different songs. Many of my guy friends enjoy playing League of Legends. I tried playing it, but I found it too difficult. On my free days, I really enjoy going out with my friends and exploring the province we live in. I have two older sisters, but they do not live with me and my parents anymore because they are married. I am glad to hear that you don't feel lonely being an only child. I find that really close friends are like family sometimes. Wow, your three day holiday sounded like a lot of fun! I have been very busy these past couple of days because the semester is coming near the end. So, unfortunately I haven't been up to anything fun. When does your semester end? It was really nice hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Maira O

Hi Astrid,

Yes spring is coming here to! I am very happy because I love all the flowers and blossoms. Congratulations on your upcoming birthday! That is very exciting. To prepare for your birthday party, I think what matters most are the people who will be there with you. And I am not sure how Birthdays' are celebrated where you live, can you tell me some things about Birthday parties in China? Are there some specific traditions that you do?
All the best!
Sincerely,
Danica

Hi Leo,

The semester is coming to an end here. It has been really nice getting to know you. I hope the rest of your school year goes very well and you do good in all your classes.

Hi Ricardo,

It's great that you are feeling better. I'm glad you recovered in time to go to the concert. I love concerts! They are so fun.

I've been working hard to finish all my assignments for all the classes I'm in. I have to take an art class for the degree I'm working towards, so I decided painting would be fun. It is very hard. I'm not a very good artists, so every painting I do takes a lot of work to get it to look right. Some people in my class are very good artists. They can make a painting look good in only a few hours. It takes me over 10 hours sometimes. I have lots of other assignments and tests coming up soon, so I'm always busy with school work. When I'm not in school, I'm working at the clothing store, or getting some physical fitness done, like running or hiking, or weight lifting.

I'm not that interested in vehicles. If I had to pick my dream vehicle to own, it would probably be one that has 4x4 and bigger tires with lots of grip, so I could take it driving in the mountains. I like hiking, so a vehicle to get to remote locations would be nice.

I'm really glad that we were paired to be pen pals this year. I really enjoyed getting to know you better, and will continue to pray for good things for you in the years to come.

from,
Cheryl

Hi again Reginald!

No worries at all! I understand :-) Good job on finishing your term project! Is the term ending for you very soon? At my university I will be done classes next week and my last final exam is on April 24th. I'm very excited that soon I'll be finished stress of finals!

Wow. It seems like your dad has a very important job! My dad also works very hard and it is difficult to watch him get so tired. You and your father seem like best friends. I'm so glad that you get to spend so much time together and go to the cinema. It's no wonder why you love him so much! He sounds like a wonderful parent and role model.

I searched for pictures of Hokkaido and it looks gorgeous! The rolling fields of flowers are breathtaking and I saw very cute pictures of the Otaru Canal. I agree about your "earthy paradise" description! I think I would like to travel there some day :-D I also saw photos of bears in Hokkaido. Did you see bears when you were there? Will you be going on more travels this summer?

I have to go do more homework! Since the semester is ending I think I'll probably only get to write to you one more time. Talk to you soon,
Madison :-)

Hi Frank,

It's great that your school cares so much about sports. It is very important to have something to do other than studying so that your brain can have a break. I am not very athletic but I enjoy going on walks to take breaks from homework.
Classes here at my university are coming to an end for the semester. This means that I am spending a lot of time working on projects and studying for exams. I am very excited to be able to go home and work for the summer. Because classes are ending I will not be able to write to you again. It has been a pleasure writing with you. Good luck on your studies!

Hello Matthew,

It sounds like you've had a busy week! I'm sorry to hear that the weather was bad for Tomb Sweeping Day, that's too bad! I have not yet seen Ready Player One, but I bought the book so that I can read it first. I prefer to read the books before I see the movies, but I will watch it as soon as I have finished! Thank you for recommending it!
I'm sorry that your time at home is so short! I totally understand what you are feeling. I always feel like my visits home are too short. But I always look forward to them so much. I'm currently not taking a PE class, but I am taking a self-defense class which is good because I am learning how to protect myself. Next semester I will be taking something similar to a PE class, but it is not all physical activities.
This next week is the last week of classes here at my university. This means that I have a lot of papers and projects that I need to complete in the next couple of days. I also have a lot of studying to do for my final exams, but I'm sure that they will be just fine. This also means that this will probably be the last time I will be able to write to you. It has been a pleasure getting to know you Matthew! You are a kind person and I hope that you are successful in your studies. All the best,

Deleasha

Hallo, Katrina

I'm glad to see your reply. I lost many scores in language arts. Because I'm not fail two big projects. The main reason is that I didn't look at the teacher's request. The teacher asked us to write the catalogue, the introduction and the cover page, but I didn't do it, so I got a score of 0. This is a big project for us for a month. I think I might suffer from the parents' meeting on Friday.

last Monday, I forgot to put on my leather shoes. And then my language art teacher found out that I didn't wear leather shoes, I had three days of tow hours detention last week. I have almost no free time.

What about your daily life. Is it funny or sad. can you share with me?

Hi, I just have a three days holiday, I feel good, because I just finish 3 big project. That three project I spend 1 month to finish it. the vocabulary is the most difficult one to do. because it need translate the word and find the synonym, non-example and definition, also I should to draw a picture by myself to explain that word. I finish that by 3 weeks, because it have too many steps for one word. next is the poetry. can you write a poetry? I think you must can write it, it's not difficult to write, you just need to follow the step. and step by step, so that you can write a poetry. The last one is the science project, it's little difficult , because this should be take photo and do a science test. my topic is how far the key can control the e-car, it can let me have fun.
Hope you send back soon!

Hi, Maria,
I hope you doing well. Are you be very busy these days? I got a 3 days' holiday. I live in the hotel in Suzhou. I had a good time there. I live with my classmates in Suzhou. We have a big meal in a Japanese restaurant. The sushi there is really good. But it was really bloodcurdling that we saw the huge bills. In the evening we went to play bowling. It is really interesting, but it will make you very tired. It is hard to control the way of the rolling ball. What about you? Did you have something interesting these days? I hope to hear you soon.
Sincerely,
