Hello Shane,
I will introduce myself, and I hope we can get to know each other.
I am studying how to teach English, but I also like to learn other languages. I have studied Japanese and French in school, and also learn a few words of other languages whenever I get the chance. I live in a city near Vancouver, Canada, that has many immigrants from Korea, so I have started to learn some Korean from my friends here.
I also enjoy running for exercise and fun, and am training to run a half marathon (21 km) later this spring. I'm not very fast, but I enjoy it!
Do you like school? What are your favourite subjects at school?
Do you have any hobbies, or favourite ways to relax?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Naomi.
Hello, Naomi!
Nice to meet you, my name is Shane, as you already know~
I am a senior from Suzhou, a beautiful city near Shanghai, Chinese people used to call it the “Paradise on Earth,” due to the beautiful gardens and Chinese beauties.
I truly enjoy my study here in SIPFLS; there are lots of international students on campus to create this multicultural circumstance. Actually my best friend is a Canadian girl! We have the same history class, which is also my favorite class. Our teacher is called Mr. Howell; he is very handsome and intellectual.
I am impressed by the half marathon you mentioned before! I love running too, but I didn’t have the chance or indeed the courage to do it… It’s amazing for you to finish 21 km! I wish I could try it sometime too. I always find it hard to control my breath. Are there any tips you could give me? That will be fabulous.
Recently, I am holding a Model United Nation Conference at our school, and there will be over 150 delegates, I did organized our Halloween party and Christmas party before, but this one is huge. In addition, I am planning for our Grade 12 graduation trip. I believe that will be amazing too.
I think that’s all I can think of right now, I do hope this letter can help you to know me more. Teaching a language to foreigner must not be an easy task (same as learning one!) If there’s anything I could do to help, please let me know. I will be more than pleased to offer a hand.

Oh.. I just realize we have to do five questions…
So here are the other four questions:
1. What type of music do you like for most?
2. You learnt many languages, which one is your favorite? Why?
3. How does it feel to know Muti-languages?
4. Do you like reading? Which kind of book do you prefer?
I looking forward to hear from you~

Hi Shane,
Thanks for sharing about yourself. Your description of your city makes me want to come there and see it for myself. It does sound beautiful!
I'm glad you have a good teacher for history, and some good friends on campus. So you can learn English from your Canadian friend there, too? (or perhaps French?)
About running, I can tell you a little bit, and then you will just have to try for yourself. I started out running just a little bit each day - not every day, but maybe 3-4 times each week. If you can't run, you can also just walk, and keep getting faster until you can start running a bit with some walking. Try to drink water and eat healthy food, and enjoy some days of no running during the week. If you can keep going slowly, you might find that your breathing will get easier and you can enjoy it more. Good luck! And let me know how it goes.
I will share my answers to your questions briefly (so much to say!):
1. I like jazz music, and any music that has people singing in harmony together.
2. My favourite language is probably Japanese, because I made so many good friends when I studied there.
3. Knowing multiple languages makes me feel a connection to people around the world, even when I don't know all the languages.
4. I like reading. I am not a very fast reader, but I usually have something I am reading. I just started reading a book called "Still Alice" (fiction). I also enjoy various non-fiction books, too.
You mentioned a Grade 12 trip that you are planning. Where will you go and what will you do?
Talk to you soon.
Naomi.
Shane,
We are coming to the end of our semester, and the end of this journal time.
Thanks for sharing the journal writing.
I wish you all the best in your English learning, and in your future studies, wherever you go from this point.
Oh, and I hope you can enjoy running in your future, too!
Thanks,
Naomi.
